Orrefors is the name Swedish glass answers to. A Smaland ironworks that turned to crystal in 1898, it spent the twentieth century proving that clarity could be a national style, and its everyday pieces were drawn with the same discipline as its exhibition ware. This decanter is that discipline at table scale, a bell of clear crystal, a neck pulled out long and thin, and a solid ball stopper cut with flat facets that throw the light around when the glass is full.

The decanter is one of the few objects on a table that exists purely to slow you down, and the Swedes made the best case for the ritual by making it this quietly. Clean, sound and ready to work, with only the faint base wear of a piece that has actually been used.
