Cottee's is about as Australian as a brand gets, cordial and jam and Passiona, on the kitchen table for the better part of a century. This is one of its delivery crates, the kind that rattled off the back of a truck full of bottles, and someone has hand-painted the name straight onto the yellow, Cottee's in loose red script, brush and a breath of spray shadow, not a stencil.
Turn it over and the crate tells the truth about its old job, rows of dark rings ghosted into the base where the bottles stood for years. Decorative now rather than working, one painted face, honest Australiana with a real past.
