Notes
A provincial chair with nothing extra. The ladderback, turned uprights and woven rush seat keep it honest, and the slight irregularity in the frame is exactly what separates a real country chair from a later factory copy: it was made by hand, one at a time, to be sat on rather than admired.
Rush seats were woven from twisted reed or rush over a timber frame, a craft of its own that wears in rather than out. Built for everyday use, which is why it still has the right kind of gravity now. Good singly, without needing a set around it.
