Notes

A bookmaker's odds board, the working front of a racing bookie's pitch from the first half of the last century. A row of turned pegs in red and blue runs along the top, and below them a bank of canvas rolls pulls up to show the prices. Peg the runners, roll the odds, and the board did the rest.

It is all here and it all still works. The pegs turn in their holes, the number rolls run in their slots, and the timber has gone dark with age and handling. We have left it as it earned its living, honest grime, old paint spatter and all, cleaned only enough to steady it. Structurally sound and quietly full of story, it hangs on a wall or stands on a bench as a piece of vernacular gambling history.

Approximately 67 cm high.
