Notes

Three pieces came out of one house, built to match, and this is the tall one. At a metre it is tall enough to close off a corner and short enough to put something on. It is also the only one of the three with an inside, and the inside of a piece of furniture is where it stops performing.

It is deco revival rather than deco, and the inside says so in about four seconds. The doors hang on concealed cup hinges and both carcass sides carry a full column of drilled peg holes for the shelves, and neither of those existed when the style it refers to was new. That is not a flaw and it is not hidden. The piece was built by people who had the old vocabulary and the new fittings and used each where it actually worked, which is a more honest way to make furniture than faking the hinges.

Nothing on it is signed. Nothing on any of the three is signed, and that is not an oversight: the revival trade sold a style, not a studio, and the workshops that did it well shut without leaving a name to look up. There is no attribution to buy here. There is only how well it is made, which is the only part that was ever true anyway.
