Notes

A piece of West German fat lava, the thick blistered volcanic glaze that poured out of the Rhineland studios through the 1960s and 70s, when texture became the whole point. Here it is a black and oat-white foam crawling across the form with bursts of bright red breaking through, the glaze left to bubble and crater rather than smoothed flat.

Two deep teardrop lobes run into a single heart, drawn up at the back into a scrolled loop handle so it can hang or stand. Unmarked, as much of this ware was, and in good condition, the glaze still full and the red still bright.
