Notes
This work does not reach for the remarkable. It points at what is already there: the Park Motel sign lit against a Nevada sky, rooms glowing, a car park that suggests someone who drove a long way to get here. The XPan's wide frame stretches the scene into something cinematic without staging anything.
The motel has since closed. What was a working place when the shutter opened is now, by current account, abandoned, which the photograph could not have known and now cannot unknow. That is the quiet weight in it: a picture of an ordinary American night that turned, after the fact, into a record of something gone.
