Australian wharves killed and maimed people at a rate that eventually produced its own bureaucracy. The Federal Advisory Committee on Waterfront Accident Prevention ran a poster campaign through the Accident Prevention Organisation from 1961, and the posters went up where the work was, which is why so few of them lasted.

They are better than they had to be. This one is drawn looking down a ladder into a hold, all yellow ground and hard black line, the cargo stacked below and a coil of rope lying exactly where a man's boot is about to go. The composition does the instruction before the words do. The words, when they arrive, are flat and unarguable.

The Maritime Museum holds this title and names the artist as Clem Millward, an Australian painter born in 1929 whose other work runs to Snowy Mountains construction sites. He was paid to make a hazard legible to somebody crossing a deck at speed, and he made a poster instead.
