Honest age: scattered scratches through the red, small paint losses along the board edges and a chip to one lower corner

Notes

Somebody stencilled the board first. A white repeat of flowering stems run over a pressed linen grain, the sort of surface made to cover a wall and not be looked at. Then it was turned over and painted on, in thin red with one hard blue shape standing in a field of fast blue drawing.

It comes from the collection of Jim Masselos, who taught Indian history at the University of Sydney for forty-four years.

Nobody wrote a name on it. The record says artist unknown, Australia, twentieth century.
