The well sunk into the top is an ice bucket, deep enough to stand a bottle in and keep it there. The shell underneath takes a lamp that twists up into the base so the table can be lit from within, which ours does not have. And because it was moulded rather than assembled there is nothing glued, nothing fixed and nothing that can work loose, which is also why it does not mind weather.
